Roblox AI: Every AI Tool in Roblox Studio and What It Can Build (2026)

Every Roblox AI tool in one place: Assistant, Code Assist, mesh and material generation, Avatar Setup, Animation Capture and the Studio MCP server. What each makes, and the gaps you still fill yourself.

TL;DR
  • Roblox Assistant is the centre of Roblox AI: an agent in Studio that writes scripts, edits the place, inserts assets and generates meshes and materials from prompts.
  • Around it sit Code Assist (inline completion), the Material and Texture Generators, Avatar Setup, the TextGenerator API for NPC dialogue, and a Studio MCP server for Claude, Cursor and other external tools.
  • There is no text-to-animation in Studio. The only built-in AI animation is Animation Capture, which turns a short video into R15 body motion and is still in beta.
  • AI can now draft a whole simple game, but the slow parts are still tuning the loop, making content, and getting characters to move.
  • For animation, tools like NPCMotion turn a prompt or a phone video into an R15 animation you load in Studio. That is the missing piece of the stack below.

Roblox AI is no longer one feature. It is a set of tools built into Roblox Studio, led by Roblox Assistant, plus a growing number of outside tools that plug into Studio. Together they can now script, build, model and texture a simple game from prompts.

What they cannot do is just as useful to know, because that is where your time will go. This guide maps every tool by what it actually makes, shows how to prompt the Assistant for a working clicker game, and ends with a practical AI stack for a solo developer.

Roblox also announced Build, a prompt-to-game creator in the Roblox app, at RDC 2026. At the time of writing it is in alpha in a few countries, with prompt-based scene generation for Studio promised for later in 2026.

What can Roblox Assistant do?

Assistant is a chat agent that acts directly on your place, not a chatbot that only answers questions. Ask it for something and it can:

  • Write and edit scripts across several objects at once.
  • Create, change and delete instances in the place.
  • Search and insert assets from the Creator Store and your inventory.
  • Generate meshes, materials and procedural models with slash commands such as /generate_mesh and /generate_material.
  • Plan before it builds. /plan writes an editable plan and waits for you to click Build.
  • Look at your viewport, so “move this closer to the door” can mean what you see.

It is free with a daily usage cap that Roblox does not publish. You can also add your own Anthropic, OpenAI or Google key under Manage API Keys and pay the provider instead.

How do you prompt Roblox Assistant to make a clicker game?

Roblox’s own prompting advice comes down to three habits: name exact instances, say “add a script to…” when something should happen while the game runs (otherwise Assistant tends to make a one-off edit), and work in small steps you playtest between. Here is that applied to a clicker game, one prompt per step. These prompts are ours, not Roblox’s.

  1. 1Plan it. “/plan Plan a simple clicker game: clicking the part named ClickButton earns coins, coins buy upgrades that raise coins per click, and coins show in leaderstats. Keep it under five steps.”
  2. 2The button. “Add a script so that clicking the part named ClickButton gives the player coins equal to their CoinsPerClick value.”
  3. 3The money. “Add a script that creates leaderstats with Coins for each player who joins, and a hidden CoinsPerClick value starting at 1.”
  4. 4The shop. “Create a ScreenGui in StarterGui with an Upgrade button that costs 25 coins, doubles CoinsPerClick, and doubles its own price. Check the purchase on the server.”
  5. 5Saving. “Add a script that saves Coins and CoinsPerClick with DataStoreService when a player leaves and loads them when they join, using pcall.”
  6. 6The look. “/generate_mesh giant shiny gold coin with a star emblem”, then ask Assistant to replace ClickButton with it.

Playtest after every step. Assistant is quick, but it does not know your game is fun, and it can confidently write a purchase that trusts the client. Read anything that touches money or saving before you publish.

Once it works, the game will still feel empty: a shopkeeper who never moves, a mascot frozen beside the button. Assistant has no animation command for that. It is the step our NPC animation guide picks up.

Can you use Claude, ChatGPT or Cursor with Roblox Studio?

Yes, two ways. Inside Studio, Assistant can run on your own API key from Anthropic, OpenAI or Google. Outside Studio, Studio can act as an MCP server, which lets tools such as Claude Code, Claude Desktop, Cursor, VS Code and Codex read and edit your open place, run Luau and playtest.

Turn it on under Assistant › ⋯ › Manage MCP Servers › Enable Studio as MCP server. It replaced the older open-source MCP server as Roblox’s recommended route in March 2026.

Can Roblox AI make 3D models?

Yes. Mesh generation in Assistant is built on Cube, Roblox’s 3D generation model. It makes textured meshes from text or an image, and newer versions control how a model is split into named parts. Cube’s weights are published, under a research-only licence, so check it before building on the model directly.

In-game, the 4D generation beta lets players generate objects that work, such as a car they can drive, through GenerationService. It is rate-limited per experience and still beta.

Can Roblox AI make animations?

Not from text. Nothing in Studio turns “zombie shamble, dragging one leg” into an animation. The built-in options are:

  • Animation Capture, Body. Upload a short video (under 15 seconds, one person, a steady shot) and get R15 keyframes in the Animation Editor. Beta.
  • Animation Capture, Face. Drive an animatable head from your webcam. Beta.
  • The Animation Editor itself, where you key everything by hand.

Roblox’s RDC 2026 roadmap mentions dynamic NPC behaviour set up through prompts and new default movement with motion matching, but neither is text-to-animation, and both are dated for late 2026 to 2027.

That gap is what third-party tools fill. NPCMotion generates an R15 animation from a prompt or a phone video, locks the feet so nothing slides, and bakes a KeyframeSequence for Studio. We compare every route in our AI Roblox animation generator guide.

Can AI make a whole Roblox game?

A simple one, yes. Assistant’s plan mode, Roblox Build and a wave of third-party prompt-to-game builders can all produce a playable obby, clicker or tycoon from a description. Treat it as a fast first draft rather than a finished game.

Part of the gameHow well AI does it today
Scripts for common systemsWell. Read anything that touches money or saving
Laying out a mapWell for simple layouts and inserting assets
Props and modelsWell for single objects; style consistency takes work
Materials and texturesWell
Character animationNot built in. Use Animation Capture, hand-key, or a text-to-motion tool
Making the loop funNot at all. That is still playtesting

Can you make AI NPCs that talk?

Yes, with the TextGenerator API, which gives your scripts an LLM with a system prompt, temperature and optional structured JSON output. It is in beta and rate-limited per experience.

There are rules. AI that players interact with has to be declared in your Content Maturity questionnaire, players must be told they are talking to an AI, and open-ended chat or memory across sessions puts the experience in the Restricted (18+) category. Text from any outside AI has to be filtered like player chat.

Are you allowed to use AI to make a Roblox game?

Yes. Roblox does not require you to disclose that you used AI to build an experience, and its maturity questionnaire says not to factor it in. The normal rules still apply to what you publish: the Community Standards, and copyright, even when AI changed the copied material.

Separately, Roblox may use creator data to train its models. Paid assets and experiences can opt out in the AI data-sharing settings.
