TL;DR
  • Our top pick is NPCMotion: type a move or upload a phone video and get an R15 animation back with the feet locked, ready for Studio. We build it, so we have been strict about where it falls short.
  • The runner-up for free video capture inside Studio is Roblox’s own Animation Capture: built in, but video only, under 15 seconds, and still beta.
  • General AI mocap tools such as DeepMotion, Rokoko Vision, Plask and Move One capture good human motion, but hand you an FBX that still has to be retargeted onto R15.
  • AI video generators that make an MP4 of a Roblox avatar are not animation tools. There is nothing in a video to load onto a rig.
  • Judge any tool on five tests: R15 output, planted feet, Studio import, clip length and commercial rights. The tables below do it for eight tools.

The best AI for Roblox animations is the one that hands you an R15 animation Studio can load, with feet that stay planted. That sounds like a low bar. Search for it, though, and half of what comes back makes videos rather than animations, and most of the rest makes motion for a human skeleton that you still have to fix up for Roblox.

This guide covers the eight tools whose output really ends up as keyframes on an R15 rig, and says plainly where each one makes you do extra work. NPCMotion comes out on top for most Roblox work. We build it, so it gets the same five tests as the rest, and its weak spots are listed too.

What is the best AI for Roblox animations?

Our top pick for most Roblox creators is NPCMotion. It is the only tool here built just for Roblox that takes both text and video, locks the feet so nothing slides, and hands back a KeyframeSequence that Studio opens directly, no Blender involved.

The others each win at a narrower job. Here is the whole field, by what you want to make:

Why is NPCMotion the best AI for Roblox animations?

Because it was built for Roblox from the first line. NPCMotion turns a sentence or a phone video into an R15 animation that plays correctly in Studio. The motion model writes a human skeleton, like every tool’s does. The difference is the step after it, the retarget, which re-solves the limbs for R15 proportions, pins planted feet and clamps joints before baking a KeyframeSequence. That step is where most of our work goes.

The testHow NPCMotion does
Outputs R15?Yes. A KeyframeSequence for the rig you pick, including Rthro and custom body scales
Feet stay planted?Yes. Contacts are pinned, and a contact track under the timeline lets you check them before you bake
Gets into Studio how?A .rbxm download, a script for the Command Bar, or one click with the Studio plugin
Clip length and cost?Up to 10 seconds a clip; one credit per second, 5 free, then plans from $9 a month
Paid games?Yes. You own what you generate: no attribution, no revenue share

Two more things tip it. Text and video in one tool: type “guard standing at attention, scanning left and right”, or act a dance out on your phone and trim it to the seconds you want. And retargeting is free, so the same generation can be re-baked onto a blocky avatar and a tall Rthro one without spending another credit.

Where it falls short: R15 humanoids only, clips of up to 10 seconds, and the limits every generator shares, namely props, two characters touching and exact choreography. Our AI animation generator guide covers those limits, with 40 prompts that work.

Example output · R15
Text to motion

“A person sprints forward naturally with fast steps and swinging arms. Loop naturally”

One prompt on R15 with foot contacts locked. Fast steps are where sliding hides best, and each planted foot stays where it landed.

Want to see it on your own rig first? Generate a walk and scrub the feet frame by frame. No rig yet? Studio makes one in ten seconds: here is how to get a free R15 rig.

How do you judge an AI animation tool for Roblox?

A demo reel proves very little, because every reel is played on the skeleton the motion was made for. What matters is what happens on R15. These are the five tests every tool in this guide was held to:

  1. 1Does it output R15? Roblox moves a character through Motor6Ds named for its fifteen parts. Motion made for a human skeleton has to be retargeted first, and that step is where most of the quality is lost.
  2. 2Do the feet stay planted? R15 legs are a different length from a human’s, so copied joint angles make planted feet skate. Look for foot contact locking, and scrub one walk frame by frame. More in why generated animation slides.
  3. 3How does it get into Studio? A KeyframeSequence or a Studio plugin takes a minute. An FBX means an import step, and often a detour through Blender.
  4. 4How long can a clip be, and what does a usable second cost? Idles and walks are short loops; cutscenes are not. Price per second of animation you actually keep is the fair comparison.
  5. 5Can you ship it in a paid game? Some free tiers are non-commercial. Read the licence before you publish, not after.

Is Roblox Animation Capture good enough?

For a free tool that is already in Studio, often yes. Animation Capture turns a short video into R15 body keyframes inside the Animation Editor, and a separate mode drives an animatable head from your webcam.

  • Short clips. Under 15 seconds, one continuous shot.
  • One person, fully in frame, in even light with a steady camera.
  • R15 only, and still labelled beta.
  • No text input. If you cannot perform the move, you cannot capture it.

Use it when you can act the move and need it today. Reach for a text tool when you need dozens of clips, or a move that is easier to describe than to film in your bedroom, like a zombie lunging at the camera.

Can you use DeepMotion, Rokoko or Move One for Roblox?

Yes, with an extra step. These are general AI motion-capture tools built for every engine, not for Roblox. They read a person out of a video (DeepMotion also takes text, through SayMotion) and give you an FBX for a human skeleton.

ToolInputRoblox routeWatch out for
DeepMotion Animate 3DVideo; text through SayMotionHas a Roblox R15 character to retarget onto, exported as FBX and imported into StudioCheck planted feet on R15 before you publish
Rokoko VisionVideoFBX for a human skeleton, retargeted onto R15 in BlenderThe retarget and cleanup are on you
Plask MotionVideo, in the browserFBX for a human skeleton, retargeted in BlenderThe same retarget step
Move One (Move.ai)Video from an iPhone appFBX for a human skeleton, retargeted in BlenderiPhone only, and the same retarget step

Their capture can be very good. The cost is the retarget. R15 limbs are proportioned differently from a person’s, so copying rotations across puts hands and feet in the wrong places. If you go this way, use a retarget that keeps foot positions rather than one that copies angles, and check every walk for sliding. R15 retargeting explains why.

Is Cascadeur good for Roblox animation?

Yes, if you want to animate by hand, only faster. You still set the key poses; Cascadeur’s AI tools fill in the rest of the body and make the motion obey physics. It ships rigged R15 and R6 characters and an Export to Roblox command (in version 2025.2 and later), so the result reaches Studio without Blender.

It is the best tool here for a signature move you want to control frame by frame, like a boss’s finishing attack. It is the slowest for bulk work, because you are still animating, just with help. There is a free version; check its plans page for export and commercial limits before you build a game on it.

Can you use Mixamo animations on Roblox?

Yes, but Mixamo is not generative AI. It is Adobe’s free library of motion-captured human clips, plus an auto-rigger. You download an FBX for Mixamo’s skeleton and retarget it onto R15, in Blender or with a Studio plugin made for it.

It is a decent source of stock runs, jumps and dances. The usual complaints are twisted arms and sliding feet after the retarget, for the proportion reason above, and the small matter of using the same clips as half the internet.

Do you still need Moon Animator or the Animation Editor?

Yes. Neither is AI, and both still matter. The built-in Animation Editor is free and is where every animation, generated or not, ends up being checked and published. Moon Animator 2 is the paid plugin many Roblox animators use for cutscenes, cameras and scenes with several rigs.

Think of it as a split. AI tools save you from keying the hundredth shopkeeper idle; hand-keying is for the few moves players will remember.

Why don’t AI video generators work for Roblox animation?

Because they make a video, not motion data. Several tools that show up for “Roblox AI animation” generate an MP4 of a blocky character dancing. That is fine for a thumbnail or a short, but a game needs keyframes on a rig, and you cannot load an MP4 onto an Animator.

The one way to use them is as reference footage: run the clip through a video-to-motion tool and capture it like any other video. Expect mixed results, because generated characters with blurred or merging limbs are hard to track.

Which AI animation tool should you use for each clip?

Most games end up using two or three of these. The question to ask of each clip is how much you care about its exact frames.

Does Roblox have its own AI animation generator?

Not from text, as of October 2026. Animation Capture is Roblox’s only built-in AI animation tool, and it works from video. Roblox Assistant can script and build, but it has no command that generates a clip.

Roblox’s RDC 2026 announcements included prompt-driven NPC behaviour and a new default movement system built on motion matching, dated late 2026 to 2027. Neither turns a sentence into an animation you can publish. Our map of every Roblox AI tool keeps track of what is out and what is announced.

Can you use AI-generated animations in a paid Roblox game?

Roblox does not stop you, and you do not have to disclose that AI helped make an experience. The question is the tool’s licence. With NPCMotion you own what you generate and can use it in monetised experiences with no attribution or revenue share. Free tiers elsewhere are sometimes non-commercial, so check before you publish.

Whatever made it, a published animation is an asset on Roblox, and an experience needs permission to load it. Publish it under the same owner as the game, which for a group game means the group. Our guide to animating an NPC has the scripts and the permission fix.
